READ:

While Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

–Luke 11:27-28

REFLECT:

God is calling each of us to be part of his family.  That’s how much he loves us.  Especially as Catholics, we know these words aren’t spoken because He loves His mother less than us.  It’s not that He wants to denigrate His mother, but instead that He wants to elevate us.

He wants to give us the greatest gift we can receive—Himself.  And when we allow ourselves to receive Him, when we hear His word and observe it in love for Him, then we are on the way to being part of His family in heaven.  And no one heard and observed His word as well as our mother.
