The House voted today to repeal parts of the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, and to start to improve the American health care system with the American Health Care Act.
“This is a hugely important step, but it is just the first step to improving health care for all Americans, especially the vulnerable. The American Health Care Act begins the process of increasing meaningful medical access for individuals and families across the country by returning focus to the doctor-patient relationship. We must also remember that health sharing ministries play an important part in this process and should be included and protected in any new legislation moving forward,” said Louis Brown, Esq, director of CMF CURO.
The American Health Care Act promises to deliver relief from the Affordable Care Act and to empower truly affordable, patient-centered health care. The bill also would provide significant funding for those with pre-existing conditions through high-risk insurance pools.
President Donald Trump also today signed an executive order on religious liberty. This order signifies the administration’s significant and strong commitment to protecting religious liberty across the board including within the domain of health care. There is much more work to be done to protect the right of conscience and religious freedom in health care but we are encouraged by the administration’s beginning effort to address this issue.
“The Christ Medicus Foundation and CMF CURO see these combined actions as vital and unprecedented steps toward creating a health care system that is pro-life, patient-centered, and respectful of the religious liberty of all Americans,” said Brown.
“We hope the provisions of the new health care bill and the president’s executive order will be the foundation of a great national effort to finally establish an American health care system that protects life, empowers greater health care access for the poor, and greater protections of religious liberty in health care,” he said
