The beauty of Christmas often comes wrapped in joy, but also in busyness, expectations, and even stress. In the midst of gatherings, gift lists, and family dynamics, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. This season is an opportunity not just to celebrate, but to slow down and receive the peace Christ offers. Here are three simple, faith-filled ways to nurture your spirit, mind and body during Christmas:
One: Let Go of Perfection
Christmas doesn’t have to be flawless to be holy. Maybe the plans changed, the cookies burned, or relationships feel strained. Instead of clinging to “how it should be,” pause and ask: Where is the Lord inviting me to be present right now? Perfection isn’t the goal, presence is. When we surrender expectations, we make room for grace and discover joy in the ordinary.
Scripture to Reflect On:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” ~ Psalm 46:10

Two: Lean Into the Season
Our culture often treats Christmas as a single day (let’s be honest its own season right after Halloween!), but the Church gives us a whole season to celebrate! The 12 Days of Christmas begin on December 25 and lead to Epiphany, celebrated on January 6 (or the Sunday after in the U.S.). These days build on the Octave of Christmas, ending with the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God on January 1. This rhythm reminds us: Christmas isn’t a sprint—it’s a season of grace. Go to Mass, keep the lights glowing, savor the carols, and rejoice in the mystery of the Incarnation.
Scripture to Reflect On:
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” ~ John 1:14
Three: Care for Your Body
Amid the festivities, don’t forget the basics:
- Rest Well: put your phone down, take a nap, read a book, breathe in the fresh air
- Move your body: go for a walk, sled with the kids, or enjoy a family pickleball match!
- Nourish yourself: eat wholesome meals and delight in the treats too. Balance is key.

Caring for your body honors the One who became flesh to dwell among us.
Scripture to Reflect On:
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you?” ~ 1 Corinthians 6:19
This Christmas, may you find peace in presence, joy in the season, and wholeness in caring for the gift of your body through rest and moderation. Merry Christmas!
